Building the Rudder

Image
Here Gustavo is riveting the rudder. According to the instructions you are not supposed to install the strobe light on top of the rudder if you have a VOR antenna on the vertical stabilizer. But where does it go then? Turns out that most US slings do have the strobe mounted on top of the rudder, quite close to the VOR antenna. Apparently there are no issues with signal interference.

Building the Vertical Stablizer

Image
The second day of our build at TAF we focussed on the vertical stabilizer. Getting the skin onto the frame was a bit of a struggle, but all in all it goes together like legos.  The VOR antenna is located at the top of the vertical stabilize. It is installed together with the cable before the skin goes on. It is great to work at TAF, there are a several other builders working in the same space. Whenever you run into a problem there are at least two or three opinions on how to resolve it!

Building the Horizontal Stabilizer

On the first day of the build we started with an inventory, most parts are present. Some are being delivered by the time we need them (such as the upholstery). First order of business was the horizontal stabelizer. That involves lots and lots of rivets and a few rivnuts.
